Grey Pilgrim Religion
The ancient tales say that the mountain once spoke and made war with the gods. It was young and furious then. But then the gods silenced the mountain. Taking pity upon it, the seven winds gathered around the mountain and soothed it. In silence the mountain gained wisdom and the seven winds speak for it now.
The Seven Winds
There are seven winds, collectively forming a council of elders. They are the children of Father Sky and Mother Earth. They are:
o Norowin – Norowin is known as the North Wind and brings with him terrible cold. He is the father of the frost giants.
o Somar – Somar is known as the South Wind and brings with her warmth and love. She carries the sun on a golden shield. She is the mother of horses.
o Ezgal – Ezgal is known as the East Wind and he is the fury of the sea. He brings with him storms, thunder, lightning, and rain. When he meets the other winds they always fight and can be seen battling in the clouds.
o Wen – Wen is known as the West Wind and he brings with him plagues and death. Ezgal is jealous and petty. He hides in the forests with his trolls and flees from Somar and her golden shield at each dawn.
o Arbael – Arbael is the night wind who fills the sky with silent color. He is the mute voice of the mountain and only oracles can read his words which always speak truth and portent.
o Helg – Helg is the breath of Mother Earth, expelled in force when she gives birth to giants. She is a hot wind that carries fire and smoke and is the mother of fire wyrms.
o Leif – Leif is the wind that lives in us all, breathed into us by Father Sky and Mother Earth. Leif is small, but is many, and is the secret of language. Leif is also the bearer of souls to Grandfather Spirit.
